Beautiful 18th Century Building, Port Woodhouse

Talented MOC'er and flickr.com user Ayrlego who is known for great historical cretions recently shared this beautiful building MOC namely "Campaign Planning, Port Woodhouse" in his photostream. The building itself has the same base structure from a previous MOC of the builder, "South West Frontier". The architectural style of the building fits greatly to both ocasions and it proves that the small details like vegetation and the style of roof changes the mood of the creation completely. In this MOC I especially like the inclusion of bright green vegetation together with dark pink flowers which reminds me of houses in aegean/mediterranian climate areas like Italy, Greece or Turkey.

Twilight Town Clock Tower by Thomas Gion

This awesome micro-scale building MOC was recently shared by LEGO fan and flickr.com user Thomas Gion a.k.a. HotDogSandwiches. According to the description, this building is the clock tower of the train station of Twilight Town (and a gummi ship), from the Kingdom Hearts series of games. Alhough I haven't played the game myself details are easy to spot like the elevated roadway, pillars, two clock and the different sizes of bells on top. I like the colorscheme in tan and dark red in general. With all the golden details the building has a steam-punk vibe on it as well. The builder has a varity of great MOC's featured in his photostream so dont forget to check them out as well.

St. Basil’s Cathedral by Koen Zwanenburg

Talented LEGO MOC builder and flickr.com user Koen Zwanenburg a.k.a. Swan Dutchman shared this beautiful and colorful micro-scale model of St. Basil’s Cathedral in his photostream. The shaping and the colors of this build are matches the real building and the use of extraordinary pieces like minifigure arms and horn pieces makes it outstanding. The builder used a variety of different shaped tile pieces all around the build which came out in recent years. Check out the builders flickr page to see many more great LEGO creations.

A Great Gatehouse MOC by Jako of Nerogue

This impressive gatehouse MOC was recently shared by flickr.com user and LEGO Fan Jako of Nerogue in his photostream. The texture of the walls is done greatly but my favourite part are the machicolations. Addition of thin bodied trees with autumn colors are also nice addition to the scenery. Check out the builders photostream for many more great historical MOC's.

According to the description this MOC takes over 50.000 pieces and 2 years to build. The final result is really impressive. I like the texturing of the wall and the enourmous height the building itself. There is also lights installed to make it extra beautiful. Check out the builders photo-stream to see more photos of this great MOC.

Gothic Cathedral by O Wingård

LEGO Fan and flickr.com member O Wingård build a typical Gothic Cathedral that was inspired by Notre Dame in Paris, Kölner Dom in Cologne and Uppsala Cathedral. First I saw this creation, I remembered my days in my Paris trip because it is very similar to Notre Dame Cathedral. Creator build this Gothic Cathedral for Swebrick's contest Master Builder of the Year contest. Textures are brillant and you can find so many techniques in this MOC.

Hunters'man Inn by Robert Maier

LEGO Fan and flickr.com member Robert Maier created a perfectly textured MOC named Huntersmann Inn with well-known techniques. His color scheme is simple but effective. I mostly liked the rocky pathway to bacdoor entrance of the building.

Incredible Stone Tower Bridge (6089) Revamp by jaapxaap

I always sort of liked revamps of old LEGO sets built with modern techniques. If they are built nicely they have the nostalgia and the aesthetic look at the same time. LEGO fan and flickr.com user jaapxaap did a really great job on his latest work, a revamp of the Stone Tower Bridge (6089) castle set. According to the description this MOC was built for The Tourney 2017 in MOCpages. The color-combination and the texturing of the structures was done nicely. I also liked how the roofs were built using small connector tube pieces. The original version had very large slope pieces to form the cliff but the jaapxaap was able to do it building a wall with an angle and that also look interesting. Using Shredders helmet and shoulder spikes to form purist custom figures and using nexo power tile  (Ice dragon power tile was used. Maybe another tile with red color would fit better.) as a symbol on the gate are other interesting ideas used in this MOC.

Can you see the wing on the House of Culture?

https://www.flickr.com/photos/o0ger/32446153331

This awesome city building MOC was recently shared by LEGO fan and flickr.com user O0ger. According to the description this creation was built for a Swebrick Contest. I especially like how the huge wing plate piece is used as the main part of the roof. The diagonal edge of the wing piece gives the roof a unusual and modern look. Large-size chess on the floor is another great idea that takes the MOC to another level. The builder decorated the build with a nice selection of minifigures and plants as well.

Hornreach Keep, an amazing castle MOC collaboration.

This amazing castle MOC was built as a collaboration of flickr.com user and LEGO fans Ben Cossy and Eli a.k.a. É.Ɓ. for Brickvention 2017. The detailing on the wall is done greatly and there is also lots of impressive rock formations and vegetation on the diorama as well. Two shades of bluish-gray gives the wall a nice look together with black colored roof on top of the towers. There is also a small town inside the walls where you can see a lot of small interesting details.

The smoke out of chimney is built using white snake pieces which is something I haven't seen before. I also like how the pavement around the tree was done. The 1x1 tile pieces are not fully stacked to the ground which makes it look more realistic for a historical scene. The river that flows through the village and the outer wall is also a great addition to the creation as well. Inside the keep there is also a hall full of figures and details as well. Check out Eli's photo-stream for more photos.

Hotel Lobby Vignette by Sven Franic

It is hard to create so much details in a vignette but Sven Franic has did it perfectly. Sven created 16x16 Hotel Lobby Vignette which has neat wall technique and awesomely built keyholder cabinet for reception. I mostly liked the luggage rack and leather couch. Color-scheme is also brillant.

Königsfeld Manor by Patrick Massey

Eurobricks member and flickr.com user Patrick Massey a.k.a. MassEditor recently shared this beautiful and colorful MOC in his photo-stream which was built for the Guilds of Historica storyline in Eurobricks. I really like the idea that some parts of the creation like the roads and the river run over the smooth black frame of the vignette. The manor building itself is a great historical MOC on his own. Lots of different plants and trees makes the creation even more interesting.

Silence of the Venice in 1486

Jonas Kramm who is created an inspiring diorama that inspired from Assassins Creed II. Venice 1486 shows us the other face of the city long before the tourist rush in 15th century. Jonas perfectly showed us an ordinary day in Venice. We can see the fisher boy and gondolier pass through the canal. The building is created by rare bricks and arched bridge designed perfectly. I mostly liked the tree on the yard.

Special Interview with Andrew Tate a.k.a. snaillad

Today's  guest of honor is Andrew Tate a.k.a. snaillad from England who is known for his great City building MOC's and incredible interior designs. Photos from the work of our guest will be presented between the questions.

Kaplan: We already know you are one of the best LEGO MOC'ers in the world. What can you tell us about yourself other than that. What is your dayjob? Do you have any other hobbies or activities?

Andrew: Well that's a very flattering description, not sure if I quite believe it but thanks! I'm 31 years old and live just outside Newcastle Upon Tyne in the North-East of England. In my day job I work as a telecommunications field engineer for a major telecoms provider. I do quite a bit of travelling daily so I get a chance to see plenty of different styles of building which, of course, helps inspire me to build a variety of styles. When I am not at work I try to keep fit by running. I enjoy watching movies and following my local ex-premier league :( football team.

K: Do you remember the day when you got your first LEGO set? Which set was it? And How old were you when you started playing with LEGO bricks?

A: I think I was around 4 or 5 years old I received two sets at Christmas time, 6522 - Highway Patrol and 6506 - Precinct Cruiser. They were given by a friend of my mother and I apparently loved them so much my own parents followed up with more classic town sets in the years to come.
